Pool pump repair FAQ

Why won't my pool pump prime?+

Common causes: low water level, air leak on the suction side, clogged basket, closed valve, or a failing pump lid o-ring. A pool pro can usually diagnose priming issues within a single visit.

Repair or replace the pump?+

If the wet end is intact and the motor bearings are shot, a motor-only swap is often cheaper. If the volute is cracked or the pump is very old and inefficient, replacement (often to a variable-speed) is usually better.

Should I upgrade to a variable-speed pool pump?+

Variable-speed pumps typically run quieter and use significantly less energy. Whether it pays off depends on your run time and rates — a pool pro can walk through the trade-off.
